Sir Patrick Vallace (left), the UK’s chief scientific officer, and Professor Chris Whitty (right), England’s chief medical officer, warned this morning that the UK could be facing 50,000 new Covid-19 cases a day by mid-October, if measures don’t stop the current infection rate.
Sir Patrick said that there was good progress being made on vaccines with the possibility of one becoming available to certain vulnerable groups by this end of the year.
“In the meantime we have got to get in control of this,” he said during a live TV address to the nation.
