The Princess of Wales has apologised for sharing a happy family snap on Mother’s Day showing Catherine smiling with her children, Prince George (top), Princess Charlotte (right) and Prince Louis (left) and has admitted it was doctored.
The beaming pic was posted with the message: “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. C”.
The image that was posted on The Prince and Princess of Wales’ official X formerly Twitter feed and via their Instagram, led to accusations that it had been digitally altered – manipulated or changed – via photoshop or another similar photo digital editing tool.
Fifteen areas of the image appear noticeably suspicious and led to those accusations of photo editing. Those fifteen have been circled here in red and from left to right are: A wonky step that does not run straight and in correct perspective, a wonky ledge where the edge where it meets the step appears distorted, a break in the line of the stone behind Louis’s right leg, Louis’s thumb on his right hand appears blurred in front of his trousers, Kate’s right hand which appears blurry on an in focus jumper compared to her left hand, Louis’ left shoe appears a lighter colour and more blurry than his right shoe, the buttons on Louis’ left shoulder makes his shoulder appear the wrong level as if one extra button has been added, George’s sleeve has odd lines on it at odd angles, George’s right shoulder appears to have a lump or hump, a zip on Kate’s jacket is out of line with what follows below it, the edge of Princess Charlotte’s skirt sticks out at an awkward angle away from her body, part of Princess Charlotte’s hair appears missing and sits unnaturally on her shoulder folding backwards, Kate’s wedding ring is missing from her left hand, the sleeve on Charlotte’s jumper, part of which has completely disappeared and the edge of the tiled floor appears blurred, distorted and offline.
15 areas of the family photo posted on Mother’s Day by The Princess of Wales appear ‘edited’
Five large news agencies – AP, Getty Images, Reuters, AFP and PA – all withdrew the snap over fears it had been ‘edited at the source’.
Apology tweeted on X formerly Twitter by The Princess of Wales this morning (Monday) for posting an ‘edited’ family photo on Mother’s Day
In a statement today, the Princess of Wales, who continues to recover from abdominal surgery, has admitted and apologised for editing the picture and causing “confusion” with her edits.
She said: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.
