Images have been posted on social media of a teenager who is being identified online as the killer of Oliver Stephens, 13, who was murdered in a Reading playing field.

A Snapchat conversation has also been posted on Facebook and other social media platforms showing a chat by a teenage girl who is said to have set up and offered money to get revenge on her boyfriend, “Olly” Stephens, after they argued when he found out she had been sending nude pictures to another boy. A photo showing the teenage girl who is alleged to have set the trap for him has also been posted online.

In one posted conversation she denies she wanted her boyfriend killed, saying ” I told the guy to rob him” and not murder him, stressing: ” I did not say M him.”

Four boys and a girl, aged between 13 and 14, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and remain in police custody. Due to their age they cannot be identified by law so any social media circulated images reproduced here have been either pixelated to hide the faces or any names that could lead to identifying any of the teenagers allegedly involved.

The attack took place on Sunday in Bugs Bottom fields near to St Barnabus Road, Gravel Hill, Emmer Green at around 3.50pm and posts on social media are suggesting Oliver was killed after a row with his girlfriend erupted when he found out she had been sending nude selfies to another teenage boy.

It has been posted on Facebook that the girl – “then took to Snapchat offering 154.94 for someone to stab him).”

Images have been posted on Twitter of a youth being identified as the person who accepted the contract to stab him. One shows his face and others show him in a covid mask just showing his eyes and another of him carrying a sword or machete like weapon. One photo shows him sitting down holding a gaming controller.

A posted screenshot allegedly shows a contract offering £154.94 for Oliver Stephens to be “robbed or stabbed” to “teach him a lesson.”

It reads: “£154.94p deya up for grabs!!! My bf has been p***ing me off lately and yesterday he shouted at me for sending nudes to someone else.

“So I just want to set him up to get robbed or stabbed (but not killed,so just stab him in the hand or something) to teach him a lesson.

The person who posted the conversation screenshot commented below the post: “This was on her story. This is what girls are on?”

The authenticity of the screenshots and source and identify of the people that are said to be involved have not been verified or confirmed as any of the teenagers arrested as the police investigation into the killing continues.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Kevin Brown, head of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Olly’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
