Nurse Lucy Letby, 30, appeared in court today accused of murdering eight babies and with attempting to murder 10.
She was originally arrested in 2018 and 2019 during a probe into deaths at the neo-natal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The allegations relate to deaths of babies and non-fatal incidents between June 2015 and June 2016.

In court Letby spoke confirming her name, address and date of birth only during a brief hearing.
Letby, of Arran Avenue, Hereford, is accused of murdering five baby boys and three baby girls. She is also accused of ten charges of attempted murder of a victim under one-year old, whose identities are not permitted to be reported.
Cheshire Police launched an investigation in May 2017 into the deaths of 17 babies and 16 non-fatal collapses at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Earlier this week the force said the parents of all the alleged victims were being supported by police and being kept up to date on developments in the investigation.
Letby was remanded in custody after appearing at Warrington Magistrates’ Court to appear at Chester Crown Court tomorrow (Friday).
