Her husband, pilot Charalambos Anagnostopoulos, 33, known as 'Babis' Anagnostopoulos, has told of his 'nightmare' ordeal where he says he begged the thieves not to hurt his family as they put a gun to his baby daughter's temple. He was was asleep at his home near Athens on Tuesday alongside his wife and daughter when a gang of thieves broke in at around 5am. The gang tied him up on the floor and tied Caroline to the bed before demanding 'where's the money?' in broken Greek. He said the couple had a large amount of cash at home because they had recently bought a plot of land and needed to pay builders for work, and he revealed his hiding spot - inside a Monopoly box - quickly in order to spare his wif from being tortured. British Student Caroline Crouch, 20, has been tortured and murdered during a horrifying burglary in Greece in front of her husband and their 11-month-old baby daughter.

Her husband, pilot Charalambos Anagnostopoulos, 33, known as ‘Babis’ Anagnostopoulos, has spoken about the living “nightmare” he went through begging the thieves not to hurt his family as they put a gun to his baby daughter’s head.

He was asleep at his home near Athens on Tuesday alongside his wife and daughter when burglars broke in looking for money and valuables at around 5am. The gang tied him up on the floor and bound wife Caroline to the bed before asking “where’s the money?” in broken Greek.

Mr Anagnostopoulos said the couple had a large amount of cash at their home after recently purchasing a plot of land to use to pay builders for work being carried out.

He said he quickly told the home invaders that the cash was hidden inside a Monopoly box, hoping that it would spare his wife from being tortured.

However the thieves demanded more money and jewellery and then pointed a gun at his baby’s head before strangling his wife when she started screaming, a Greek newspaper reports. The publication said the British woman was strangled with a pair of trousers but other Greek news outlets have reported that she was suffocated “with cloth” rather than strangled.

Caroline Crouch, who was a student at the University of Piraeus, is said to be Greek born but with a British passport. She began a relationship with the pilot in 2017 and they married in 2019, giving birth to their daughter in June the following year.
